Sunday’s are a keeper! Building anticipation for Sunday has been one of my favorite parts of this season of Lent. Using objects, smells, tastes, and sights makes a child’s senses come alive with excitement! Whether you use sugar and candles, like our family is doing this year, or something else, our senses are a crucial piece of remembering something…and that’s true of adults as well as children.
I John 1:5-10 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
This verse is our battle cry on Sunday during Lent. I love the image of light used here…God is painting pictures with words in our mind as we read it. What do you see when you read it? Even better, ask your kids what they see when they read this. You may be surprised by their answers. Kids have great imaginations.
